after this article, you will know with what gear i start 2019 in photography and why i use my current gear.
i remembered that my photographer which i choose in past when they took pictures from me and they mostly uses cams from canon.
so, my preference was on a canon camera.
i made a list with things what was important for me:
- maximum budget of 1000€ for cam itself, lens, accumulator and tripod
- camera with:
- touch display
- flexible display for selfies
- good video performance
- low weight
- leightweight tripod for traveling
after some studing in onlineshops, youtube videos I bought the canon m50:
after 2 weeks testing my new camera:
i very quick i noticed that i dont really like this camera.
the lowlight and autofocus performance was not so good as i expected.
but what could i do? buy another camera after 2 weeks?
a friend of me recommend me, to use this camera and buy another and better camera maybe after 1 year.
45mm and f/6.3 is for lowlight not really good performance.
i learned a little bit more about canon and canon lenses and that was possible to mount ef lenses on canon eos m cameras.
my next choice was a canon ef 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 is stm
together with a viltrox speedbooster
the advantages of this system was, that i can have 1 aperture more (less) cause of the speedbooster. So, I can use the lens with a
3.5 x 0.71 = 2.5
aperture instead of f/3.5.
-> that lens improved really my low light performance
instead of shooting pictures with f/6.3, 1/100 and ISO6400,
i got now f/3.5, 1/100 and ISO3200 with the new ef lens.
even the autofocus worked even better in lowlight situations.
low light pictures i like to take with my
canon ef 24-70mm f/2.8l ii usm https://amzn.to/3genU7g
with my speedbooster I have 1 aperture more (less):
2.8 x 0.71 = 2.0
conclusion:
actually i am happy with my photography setup, when i have enough light and the objects are not moving.
the lowlight performance and autofocus is really not the best with the canon m50. when i take pictures i not like editing the pictures so much time in lightroom or photoshop cause of too much iso noise.
i would like to upgrade my canon m50 to a fullframe camera.
but even more problems with canon was in 2019 and 2020.
1. dslr camera are really not state of the art in 2019 and 2020 anymore.
2. the canon eos r and rp and not for well designed from canon. those cameras are not really for beginners, hobby photographer also not for professionals. the handling is not so good, the sensor is from an old 5d andso on.
-> many youtubers are not really blaming about the eos r+rp, but they are all not really happy with them and if you ask them: Yes, canon r+rp are good, but i use now a sony alpha 7….. Yes, canon r+rp are good, but i use now a sony alpha 7…..Yes, canon r+rp are good, but i use now a sony alpha 7…..
is the fullframe camera:
canon eos r https://amzn.to/2yuibcz or
canon eos rp https://amzn.to/3d0cD8H
really better than my m50 with the viltrox speedbooster and EF lenses?
well, i hope for canon that cameras which are up to 4 or 6 times more expensivier are better than a canon m50. cause of the speedbooster the gap is really small between the m50 and the r or rp.
of course you will have more options for taking pictures with the r or rp.
anyway I am unsure, if you see a diffrence between those cameras.
